Description of the device

2.1 Intended 

use

Vaillant geoTHERM heat pumps are state-of-the-art ap-
pliances which have been constructed in accordance 
with recognised safety regulations. However, there is a 
risk of death or serious injury to the user or third par-
ties or of damage to the device and other property in 
the event of improper use or use for which it is not in-
tended. 
This unit is not intended for use by persons (including 
children) having limited physical, sensory or mental ca-
pacities or who have inadequate experience and/or 
knowledge, unless supervised by a person responsible 
for their safety or who has been given instructions from 
them as to how to operate the unit.
Children must be watched to ensure that they do not 
play with the unit.
The start-up current limiter is intended exclusively for 
incorporation into heat pumps VWL 7C/9C, VWS/VWW 
61/2, 81/2, 101/2, 141/2, 171/2, 62/2, 82/2, 102/2 and VWS 
63/2, 83/2, 103/2, 64/2, 84/2, 104/2. Any other or addi-
tional use is considered to be improper. The manufac-
turer or supplier is not liable for any resulting damage. 
The user alone bears the risk.
Intended use includes the observance of the contents of 
the installation manual for the limiter.

Any improper use is forbidden!

The appliances must be installed by a qualified heating 
engineer, who is responsible for adhering to the existing 
regulations, rules and directives.

2.2 Scope

The material supplied consists of:
–  Start-up current limiter PCB with wiring harness
– Installation manual

3.1 Safety 

instructions 

The installation of the unit may only be undertaken by a 
recognised specialist, who will be responsible for 
adhering to the existing standards and regulations. He 
will also be responsible for proper installation and 
commissioning. Take note of the safety information in 
this ma-nual when installing the equipment!

Always switch off all power sources before car-
rying out electrical installation work. Make sure 
that they are secured against inadvertent 
switching on again.

3.2 General 

requirements

3.2.1 

Preliminary remarks for room sealed appli-
ances

This appliance should only be installed in conjunction 
with either a Vaillant flue system or an alternative 
approved system (details of flue approval
categories can be found in the technical section of the 
installation manual).
Install the flue system as detailed in the separate flue 
installation instructions supplied with this boiler.

3.2.2 Related 

documents

The installation of the boiler must be in accordance with 
the relevant requirements of Gas Safety (Installation 
and Use) Regulations 1998, Health and Safety Document 
No. 635 (The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989), 
BS7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations) and the Water Supply 
(Water Fitting) Regulations 1999, or The Water Bylaws 
2000 (Scotland). It should also be in accordance with 
the relevant requirements of the Local Authority, 
Building Regulations, The Building Regulations 
(Scotland), The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 
and the relevant recommendations of the following Brit-
ish Standards:
–  BS 6700: Services supplying water for domestic use 

within buildings and their curtilages.

–  BS 6798: Specification for installation of gas fired 

boilers not exceeding 60 kW input.

–  BS 6891: Specification for installation of low pressure 

gas pipework up to 28 mm (R1) in domestic premises 
(2nd family gas).

–  BS 7593: Treatment of water in domestic hot water 

central heating systems.
