THE FRAME
Starting from the top of the frame, mark the distances of the
hinge centres on the door, adding on 3mm to each one to allow
for the clearance at the top of the door. For example, if the top
hinge has a centre of 250mm from the top of the door then mark
the frame at 253mm from the top of the frame. Repeat this for
the remaining hinges always working from the top of the door and
frame. With a pencil, mark horizontal lines through the
measurements on the frame. Leaving the pegs in the same
holes rotate the jig through 180 degrees (keeping the jig face up),
allowing the jig to be offered to the side of the frame to be
recessed. Place the jig on the doorframe with the pegs against
the vertical edge of the frame to which the hinge will be fitted.
Again line up the horizontal marks on the door frame with the
centre engraving on the jig. Clamp the jig in position or hold the
jig in place by fixing with bradawls through the bradawl holes in
the jig. Route out recess for the hinge plate as above. Square off
the corners with the corner chisel.
