The description will depend on the particular transducer which is plugged in. After a few
seconds, PAM will complete an
Autozero
and then the following screen will be displayed.
This is the initial screen of the
Measure
menu which consists of the 6 options listed in
section 4.2.3. These options are discussed in detail below.
Please note that the descriptions given below assume the factory default values for the
configuration settings. The effects of altering these settings will be discussed later.
4.4.1
Measure Peak Force
In the
Measure Peak Force
menu shown above, press
Next option
to View Acquired Data
or press
View config
to view the configuration under use, as shown below.
The display above applies to a Large Joint Transducer and shows that:
- The measurement will be terminated automatically by releasing the pressure on the
transducer at the end of the test (Auto Measurement)

- The transducer is the Large transducer with a full scale force measurement of 1500gf
- The warning sound above a particular force threshold is switched OFF

Select this
at the
Measure Peak Force
screen gives a display similar to:
which shows the current date and time and indicates that the next test would be the fourth
test to be stored since PAM’s memory was last erased.
If
Test
is pressed, the instrument first requests that no force be applied to the transducer
and then checks the transducer zero. The next display is:

Alternatively, the animal response can be scored visually and by pressing the included foot pedal switch. A
visual score of the sensory or pain threshold can be necessary when there is no clear limb withdrawal, but
rather a vocalization or a very small or complex animal movement.
