TelephoneConnectionRequirements
A plug and jack used to connect this equipment tothe premises wiringand telephone net-
work must comply with theapplicableFCC Part 68rules and requirements adoptedby the
ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. It is
designedtobeconnectedtoacompatiblemodular jack that is alsocompliant. Seeinstallation
instructions for details.
Ringer EquivalenceNumber (REN)
TheREN is usedtodeterminethenumber of devices that may beconnectedtoa telephone
line. ExcessiveRENs onatelephonelinemay result inthedevices not ringinginresponse to
anincomingcall. Inmost but not allareas, thesum of RENs shouldnot exceedfive(5.0). To
becertain of the number of devices that may be connectedto aline, as determined by the
totalRENs, contact the localTelephone Company. For products approvedafter July 23,
2001, theREN for this product is part of theproduct identifier that has theformat
US: AAAEQ##TXXXX. Thedigits represented by ##arethe REN without adecimal point
(e.g., 03is aREN of 0.3). For earlier products, theREN is separately shownonthelabel.
Incidenceof Harm
If this equipment HSM2955causes harm tothetelephonenetwork, thetelephone company
willnotify youin advancethat temporary discontinuance of service may be required. But if
advancenoticeis not practical, theTelephone Company willnotify thecustomer as soon as
possible. Also, youwillbeadvisedof your right tofileacomplaint withtheFCC if you believe
it is necessary.
Changes inTelephoneCompany Equipment or Facilities
TheTelephoneCompany may makechanges inits facilities, equipment, operations or pro-
cedures that could affect the operation of the equipment. If this happens the Telephone
Company will provideadvance notice inorder for you to makenecessary modifications to
maintainuninterruptedservice.
Equipment MaintenanceFacility

Alarm dialingequipment must beable toseizethe telephonelineand placeacall inan emer-
gency situation. It must beabletodothis evenif other equipment (telephone, answeringsys-
tem, computer modem, etc.) already has thetelephone linein use. To doso, alarm dialing
equipment must beconnectedtoaproperly installed RJ-31X jack that is electrically in series
withandaheadof allother equipment attachedtothesametelephoneline. Proper installation
is depictedinthefigure below. If youhaveany questions concerningtheseinstructions, you
shouldconsult your telephone company or a qualified installer about installingthe RJ- 31X
jack andalarm dialingequipment for you.
