6. On the welding panel of the welder, next to the power button, there is a knob of
welding current with scale. Welding current is one of the basic operating parameters of
the coated electrode. By turning the knob you can set the desired welding current (A).
7. In case of too intensive and prolonged work, the protection system is switched on.
This signals a red LED. The welder fan continues to cool the welding circuit controls.
After some time, depending on the technical condition of the overload and ambient
temperature, the LED goes out. Welding can be repeat
ed.
8. Do not obstruct the ventilation holes of the welder. Do not cover the welder. In case
of need to protect the welder, eg from the rain, the umbrella or shade should be
covered. Coolant flow must be free.
Preparation of the material
For the purpose of obtaining high-quality welds, remember to remove impurities
from the welded material. To avoid irregularities during operation, care must be
taken to ensure that the electrodes are dry.
Arc incident
• By touching the electrode hold the electrode vertically over the welded material,
then touch its surface, after forming the perimeter, quickly pick up the electrode for
about 2-4mm, followed by arc failure. This arc approach is recommended for brittle
and heavy steels.
• By rubbing the electrode the arc is treated by rubbing the electrode with the
welded surface and then raising the electrode upwards.
Electrodes
Choosing the diameter of the electrode and its type to the welded material is a very
important parameter for correct welding operation. The diameter of the electrode has a
significant effect on the shape of the weld and on the depth of fusion. Increasing the
electrode diameter, at constant current, lowers the depth of penetration and increases the
width of the weld.
Coated electrodes can have diameters: 1.6-2.0-2.5-3.2-4.0-6.0-8.0 mm. The length of the
electrodes depends on the diameter of 2.5: 250-300-350 and for electrodes with a diameter
of 3.2: 300-350-400-450 mm.
Welding electrodes for manual arc welding, depending on the purpose of welding specific
steel grades, are also classified as high strength steels, heat resistant steels, stainless
steels. For welding jobs with MMA145, MMA165, MMA205 welding machines you can use
commercially available electrodes coated by different manufacturers.
Do not exceed the recommended and permissible electrode diameters and select the
appropriate electrode diameter for optimum weld performance.
