Fuel System
Maintenance
Draining the Fuel Tank
Service Interval:
Before storage
DANGER
In certain conditions, fuel is extremely flammable
and highly explosive. A fire or explosion from fuel
can burn you and others and can damage property.
•
Drain fuel from the fuel tank when the engine is
cold. Do this outdoors in an open area. Wipe
up any fuel that spills.
•
Never smoke when draining fuel, and stay away
from an open flame or where a spark may ignite
the fuel fumes.
1. Park the machine on a level surface and disengage
the blade control switch.
2. Move the motion control levers to the brake position,
stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Close the fuel shut-off valve located under the front
of the fuel tank (Figure 41).

6. Pull the fuel line off of the fuel filter (Figure 42).
7. Open the fuel shut-off valve. Allow fuel to drain into
a gas can or drain pan (Figure 41).
Note:
Now is the best time to install a new fuel
filter because the fuel tank is empty.
8. Install the fuel line onto the fuel filter. Slide the hose
clamp close to the fuel filter to secure the fuel line
(Figure 42).
Replacing the Fuel Filter
Service Interval:
Every 100 hours
Replace the fuel filter after every 100 operating hours or
yearly, whichever occurs first.
Never install a dirty filter if it is removed from the fuel
line.
1. Park the machine on a level surface and disengage
the blade control switch.
2. Move the motion control levers outward to the
park position, stop the engine, remove the key, and
wait for all moving parts to stop before leaving the
operating position.
3. Close the fuel shut-off valve located under the front
of the fuel tank.
4. Squeeze the ends of the hose clamps together and
slide them away from the filter (Figure 42).
5. Remove the filter from the fuel lines.
6. Install a new filter with the flow direction arrow
coming from the fuel tank and pointing to the
engine and move the hose clamps close to the filter
(Figure 42).
7. Open the fuel shut-off valve.
