Operation

Note: Determine the left and right sides of the machine
from the normal operating position.

Controls

The controls are shown in Figure 8. The throttle control and
the ground speed control levers are on the console on the
handle with the throttle control to the left and the ground
speed control to the right. The blade/self-propel control bar
is under the upper handle. The recoil starter is on top of the
engine.

Starting the Engine

Note: Allow the engine to warm up for 1 to several minutes
(depending on the outdoor temperature) before operating
the lawn mower.

1. Connect the wire to the spark plug (Fig. 9).

2. Shift the throttle control lever to the 

 (Fast)

position.

3. Shift the ground speed control lever to the 

 (Neutral)

position.

4. Push the primer (Fig. 9) in 3 times, waiting 2 seconds

between each push.

Note: Do not use the primer to start a warm engine.
However, cool weather may require you to prime the
engine.

5. Place your foot on the lawn mower housing.

6. Pull the recoil starter out until you feel resistance, then

pull vigorously until the engine starts.

7. Allow the engine to warm up.

8. Regulate the throttle as desired.

9. Move the ground speed control to your desired setting.

Stopping the Engine

1. Release the control bar.

2. Shift the throttle control lever to 

 the Off position.

3. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug if you will not

use the lawn mower or leave it unattended.

Operating the Blade and the
Self-propel Drive

To engage the blade, move the control bar from position A
(Fig. 10), slide the control bar to the right, and raise it to
position B (Fig. 10).

To engage the self-propel drive, squeeze the control bar
against the handle to position C (Fig. 10).

To disengage the self-propel drive but keep the blade
engaged, gradually release the control bar to position B.

To operate the self-propel drive with the blade disengaged,
squeeze the control bar again the handle to position C
without sliding the control bar to the right.
