a.
Remove the base studs, but be careful not to damage the leads on the ion source
board.
b. Gently pull the ion source board from the ion source by sliding the cartridge heaters
and temperature sensor out of the ion source and pulling the filament straight away
from the 3-pin filament connector that is located on the ion source board.
c.
Remove the filament retainer clip.
d. Remove the filament and filament spacer.
e.
Remove the ion volume key thumbscrew.
f.
Remove the spring and spring thumbscrew.
16. Clean the ion source components, as described in
Cleaning Stainless Steel Components"
Cleaning Non-Stainless Steel or Hybrid Components" on page 36
. Pay
particular attention to cleaning around the filament and the well on the opposite side of
where the ion volume sits.
17. Reassemble the ion source.
a.
Reinstall the magnet yoke, magnets, and thumbscrews.
b. Reinsert the lenses.
c.
Compress and install the triangular spring clip that the source spacer uses to hold the
prefilter lens in place.
d. Reinstall the source spacer.
18. Reassemble the lens stack.
a.
Put the lenses and lens spacers back into the ceramic lens holder.
b. Reattach the lens clip by pinching the ends with your fingers or forceps.
19. Insert the lens alignment tool (PN 120271-0001) through the magnet yoke and into the
lenses to maintain alignment during assembly.
20. Install the ion source into the DSQ II.
a.
Slip the ion source over the end of the transfer line. Be careful not to damage the
capillary column extending out of the transfer line.
b. Push the source spacer to the right until it snaps into place.
c.
Tighten the two thumbscrews.
CAUTION - INSTRUMENT DAMAGE.
Do not bend or twist the cartridge heaters or the
temperature sensor.
Note
It is not necessary to remove the ion volume pin. If it is removed, it should
be reinserted just far enough so the ball will keep an ion volume from falling out.
If the ball extends too far, the ion volume will be difficult to remove.
