Therapy issues
Please use the THERA-fit only for patients
being able to walk (even crutching or with
walking aids) without strong paralysation
or spasm.
General information
The goal of the therapy is closely related to
the specific disease of the patient and can be
to obtain mobility on one hand, on the other
hand the rehabilitation after surgery or injury,
which means getting back mobility and capac-
ity for work.
Independent patients can be instructed how
to use the THERA-fit, however a training must
be set up by a therapist and the exercises
must be supervised.
Start the training slowly and increase to your
individual maximum potential. Take care that
the patient’s capacity does not get topped.
Ways of use
THERA-fit can be used as a feet-trainer and
as a upper limp trainer:
❑
Using THERA-fit as a feet-trainer the pa-
tient sits on a chair or in a wheel-chair or he
is lying on a gymnastics mat. The foot-
rests
1
are fixed to the pedals. THERA-fit
stands on the ground in front of the patient.
❑
Using as a upper limp trainer the device
stands in front of the patient on a table. The
therapy grips
6
are fixed to the pedals and
maybe the arm rests
11
are fixed too.
THERA-joy can be fixed to the frame of a bed
or a couch. So it can be used as a feet trainer
while lying in bed, without the patient lying on
a gymnastics mat.
THERA-fit is intended especially at:
❑
Walking and moving disabilities
❑
General moving need
❑
Multiple sclerosis
❑
Rheuma
❑
Heart and circulation problems
❑
Arthrose/ Arthritis
❑
Parkinsons' disease
❑
Paraplegic
❑
Apoplectic fit
❑
Dialysis
❑
Muscle atrophy
Correct position of body
Always make sure the patient’s position is in
accordance with the goal of the therapy while
working with THERA-fit.
Start the training program by chosing small
distances between the device and the patient,
in order to make sure there will not be any
overstretching of the joints or damage in the
muscle-/tenon area.
The bigger the distance between device and
patient, the more the hip and shoulder joints
will be stretched.
Make sure when using foot-rests 1 that your
feet are fixed exactly with the belts (cf. Chap-
ter “Foot-Rests”, page 24).
Planning the training
Usually the doctor or therapist plans or rec-
ommends how often and for how long the pa-
tient should exercise on an individual basis.
Regular training with THERA-fit is extremely
important for any improvement process. Short
but regular use is better than long ones that
are exhausting. So start with a maximum of 5-
10 minutes training in a row-if your physical
mobility allows you to do so. Choose a small
capacity level. You can increase the training
time, speed and power in small steps and day
by day, whereas the patient’s capacity level
never must be overcharged.
The therapy will be most successful if there
will be no exhausting state of any kind, the pa-
tient feels at ease during the whole time and
strength and mobility slowly increase.
