REPLACING THE BRITA MEMO
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
DE-SCALING
CLEANING YOUR KETTLE
Unplug it.
Let it cool down and clean it with a damp sponge.
• Never immerse the kettle, its base, the cord or the electric plug in water or any other liquid: the
electrical connections or the switch must not come into contact with water or any other liquid.
• Do not use scouring pads.
• De-scale regularly, preferably at least once a month or more frequently if your water is very hard.
To de-scale your kettle:
• Remove the cartridge but keep the holder to de-scale it.
• Using white vinegar:
– Fill the kettle with ½ l of vinegar,
– Leave to stand for 1 hour without heating.
• Using citric acid:
– Boil ½ l of water,
– Add 25 g of citric acid and leave to stand for 15 min.
• Using a de-scaler specifically for plastic kettles: follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Empty your kettle and rinse 5 or 6 times. Repeat if necessary.
• Reinsert the cartridge into the holder.
• Never use a de-scaling method other than that recommended.
• Always store spare filter cartridges sealed in the original packaging in a shady, cool dry place.
• BRITA water filters are designed for use only with municipally treated tap water (note: This water
is constantly controlled and according to legal regulations safe to drink) or with water from private
supplies that has been tested as safe to drink. If an instruction is received from the authorities that
mains water must be boiled, the BRITA filtered water must also be boiled. When the instruction to
boil water is no longer in force, the water filter kettle and funnel must be cleaned and a new cartridge
inserted.
• Please filter cold tap water only.
• Clean the water filter kettle and funnel regularly.
