Useful information about valves
Valves are electronic components which offer superb
sound qualities, but they do require a certain level of care
due to their construction. This is primarily a factor of the
delicate mechanical nature of the components. Valves
are fitted with a heating filament which has a finite useful
life, similar to the filament in an incandescent light bulb.
In the
V10
a micro-processor controls the heating of the
valves and ensures that this process is as gentle as
possible, and that they are always protected from
overloading. The operating voltages supplied to the
valves are electronically stabilised, so that fluctuations in
the mains supply voltage have no adverse effect on the
valves.
The amplifier’s specially developed shock-absorbing feet
damp out mechanical shock and vibration.
All these design features make the
V10
extremely
reliable, and are your guarantee that the amplifier will
give long, problem-free service.
However, although the machine incorporates sophisti-
cated protective systems, you as user can also play a
part in obtaining the best possible sound and life
expectancy from your valves.
Please note the following points in this respect:
•
Avoid switching the amplifier on and off frequently.
-
For brief breaks in listening (less than
5 … 10 minutes) switch the amplifier to the HV
setting.
-
For longer breaks in listening (up to 2 hours) move
the main switch to the HEAT setting.
•
Avoid subjecting the amplifier to severe mechanical
shocks.
•
Allow the amplifier to cool off for at least an hour before
moving it.
•
Ensure that the impedance switch (back panel) is set to
the correct position for your loudspeakers.
