S.M.A.R.T.
(

method for hard drives to give advanced warning of drive failures. Administrators
wanted to know in advance if a hard drive was going to fail, because this gave
them the opportunity to take steps to protect their data.
S.M.A.R.T. measures many attributes of the hard drives over time and those
hard drives can be decided if they are moving out of tolerance. Knowing that
each hard drive is going to fail and doing something about it, is infinitely better
than having one crash in the middle of writing data. Backing up hard drive and
possibly replacing it are far better options than rebuilding a failed drive.
Enter
“S.M.A.R.T.”
function will display S.M.A.R.T. information of hard drives.
The number is the current value; the number in parenthesis is the threshold value.
