SMS (text messages)
Your phone is supplied ready for sending
SMS messages immediately.
Preconditions:
u
Calling Line Identification is enabled for
your phone line.
u
Your network provider supports SMS on
the fixed line network (information on
this can be obtained from your network
provider).
u
The SMS centre number is already
entered.
SMS messages are exchanged between
SMS centres operated by service provid-
ers. You must enter the SMS centre
through which you wish to send and
receive SMS messages into your phone.
You can receive SMS messages from
every
SMS centre that is entered, provided you
have registered with your service provider.
Your SMS messages are sent via the
Service Centr.

. However, you can
activate any other SMS centre as the active
send service centre to send a current mes-
sage (page 36).
The following SMS centres are pre-pro-
grammed for Switzerland:
– Centre 1: 062210000* (Swisscom)
Please contact your provider with any
questions relating to the SMS service.
If no SMS service centre is entered,
the SMS menu only contains the entry
Settings
. Enter an SMS Service Centre
(page 36).

Rules
u
An SMS can be up to 612 characters.
u
If there are more than 160 characters,
the SMS is sent as a
linked
SMS (up to
4 SMS messages with 153 characters
each).
Please note:
u
From a handset, you can only access
(read/edit/delete) SMS messages that
have been received or sent from an
MSN set up for the handset. To find out
how to assign MSNs to your handset,
u
If your phone is connected to a PABX,
please read page 36.
u
If you wish to receive an SMS via sev-
eral MSNs, you must register each MSN
separately with your service provider.
u
The send/receive MSN must corre-
spond to the number that is registered
at your SMS centre (page 36).
