NOTE:
The wall on the face of the fireplace must be constructed of non-combustible materials such as Durock ½”. Since
this material will be available on site it can also be used for the non-combustible hearth extension.
4.5
Chase Ventilation Options
WARNING:
The chase must be ventilated for all configurations. An opening at the top and the bottom having a minimum
area of 32 in
2
is required. Depending on the configuration, the bottom opening can be combined with the circulating air
opening. The selection of the location of the side openings is based on convenience and aesthetics. Verify that furniture or
other items will not obstruct the air circulation. Be sure that the area of the openings is equivalent to the areas shown in
Figure 19.
NOTE:
The circulating air can be taken from an adjacent room as long as the room is open so air can circulate freely with
the area where the fireplace is installed.
