Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup

6-4 System Fans
Four 4-cm high-performance fans provide the cooling for the SuperServer 5018R-
M/5018R-MR. The fans can adjust their speed according to the heat level sensed
in the system, which results in more efficient and quieter fan operation. Fan speed
is controlled by IPMI.
System Fan Failure
If a fan fails, you will need to have it replaced with the same type. Contact your
vendor or Supermicro for information on replacement fans.
Replacing a System Fan
1. If necessary, open the chassis while the power is running to determine which
fan requires changing. (Never run the server for an extended period of time
with the chassis open.)
2. Power down the system and unplug the power cord from the rear of the
power supply. Open the chassis cover.
3. Remove the failed fan's cable from the connector on the motherboard.
