3.3 Motherboard Components
Processor and Heatsink Installation
Follow the procedures in this section to install a processor (CPU) and heatsink to the
motherboard.
Notes:
•
The motherboard should be installed into the chassis first and the processor should be
installed into the CPU socket before you install a CPU heatsink.
•
If you bought a CPU separately, make sure that you use a certified multi-directional heatsink
only.
•
When receiving a motherboard without a processor pre-installed, make sure that the plastic
CPU socket cap is in place and none of the socket pins are bent; otherwise, contact your
retailer immediately.
•
Refer to the Supermicro website for updates on CPU support.
Installing the Processor and Heatsink
Begin by removing power from the system as described in Section 3.1.
1. Use a Torx T20 driver to loosen the screws holding down Force Frame in the sequence
of 3-2-1. The screws are numbered on the Force Frame next to each screw hole.
