3.3 Motherboard Components
Processor and Heatsink Installation
Notes:
•
Use ESD protection.
•
Unplug the AC power cord from all power supplies after shutting down the system.
•
Check that the plastic protective cover is on the CPU socket and none of the socket pins
are bent. If they are, contact your retailer.
•
When handling the processor, avoid touching or placing direct pressure on the LGA lands
(gold contacts). Improper installation or socket misalignment can cause serious damage
to the processor or CPU socket, which may require manufacturer repairs.
•
When handling the processor package, avoid placing direct pressure on the label area of
the fan.
•
Refer to the Supermicro website for updates on processor support.
•

Installing the Processor and Heatsink
1. Unscrew the screws holding down Force Frame in the sequence of 3-2-1. The screws
are numbered on the force frame next to each screw hole.
