Nailing Flanges

Four nailing fl anges are provided to secure the
fi replace to the fl oor (see fi gure below).  Bend
the nailing fl anges down so that each fl ange is
fl ush with the fl oor, then using nails or screws,
secure the fi replace to the fl oor (2 places each
side). The heads of the screws or nails must
be large enough to completely cover the holes
in the nailing fl anges.

There are also nailing fl anges on both vertical
facing sides of fi replace (not shown).

Chase Enclosure

A chase is a vertical box-like structure construct-
ed to surround the fi replace and chimney. Refer
to

Figure 12

for a typical chase confi guration.

As with all chimney installations, avoid overhead
obstructions such as trees, power lines, etc.
A chase should be constructed and insulated
just like any outside wall. In a cold climate, we
recommend the base of the chase should also
be insulated between the solid continuous fl oor
beneath the fi replace and the chase bottom.
Chase insulation in a cold climate installation
is not required for safety.

NOTE:

 2" clearance to combustibles around

chimney components required.

NOTE:

Blown or fi ll type insulation materials

must not be in contact with the fi replace or in
the enclosure frame as described in ‘’Enclosure’’
section.

NOTE:

Local codes may not require fi restopping

at the ceiling levels for outside chase installa-
tions. However, it is recommended for safety
and the reduction of heat loss.

       WARNING

If insulation is used, the fi replace
must not be placed directly
against it. Insulation or vapor
barriers, if used, must fi rst be
covered with drywall panels,
plywood, particle board or other
material to assure insulation and
vapor barriers remain in place.

       WARNING

Do not pack or fi ll required air
spaces with insulation or other
material. No material is allowed
in these areas.
