Shaft
The shaft ensures that your pony walks straight in front of the Sulky. Check that the shaft is balanced
when it is harnessed behind the pony. If the Sulky is not balanced, the shaft will be more heavily loaded.
There are number of welds where metal fatigue can develop over time. Pay attention to these! Wear and
metal fatigue generally arises at the fixing points. Check regularly that the end pieces of the shaft are still
firmly attached and/or that no cracks have developed in the material here! These can lead to breakage.
Swingletree
The swingletree, to which the reigns are attached, is one of the components of the Sulky that moves the
most. The pony pulls the Sulky via this component. The pivot must be checked regularly and lubricated
to ensure smooth operation. Excessive pulling force on the swingletree can result in breakage! This com-
ponent should also be checked for metal fatigue.
Always double check that the swingletree is attached properly, as it is the connection between the pony
and the Sulky.
Brakes
Always check the brakes on both sides at the wheels before setting off. The wheels must not slip/turn
while the brake is applied. The brakes can be adjusted easily with a hex key. Also check that the brake
pedal can move easily.
Bench seat
Excessive loading (in kilograms (kg)) of the Sulky can cause various fastenings to wear rapidly. Please
note that the bench seat of the Sulky can support a load of up to 120 kg. It is also important that the
Sulky remains in balance. This also reduces the pulling force that the pony must exert.
Ensure that the pommel cushion is attached/fitted properly. A loose pommel cushion can lead to acci-
dents if the cushion slips while driving.
When climbing onto the cart, do not stand on the wheels (risk of slipping) and/or the mudguards. These
are not suitable for this and there is a high risk of deformation/dents.
Storage compartment
Please note: as the clasp of the storage compartment closes firmly and can snap shut, ensure that fingers
etc. are not caught. The clasp closes firmly so that it does not vibrate or move while driving.
