The tape library contains one standard AC power distribution unit (PDU) and
one standard DC power supply.
Notes:
• The customer can order an optional AC PDU and an optional DC power
supply for redundancy.
• The customer can also order an uninterruptible power supply as an optional
feature for the library. See
“Uninterruptible Power Supply” on page A-6 for
more information.
The standard AC PDU, behind the rear door, distributes AC line voltage to the
tape library and the tape drive column.
If the standard PDU fails and no optional PDU is installed, the library and all
drives lose power. The MPC card posts an error to the FSC log.
If either PDU fails in a dual PDU configuration, and each PDU is cabled to half
of the installed drives, the operating PDU supplies power to its half of the
installed drives and to the library. The MPC card posts an error to the FSC log.
The MPC card contains a +5 V sense circuit that monitors the +5 VDC on the
MPC card. If +5 VDC is out of established ranges, the MPC card sends a shut
down request to the MPF card, and DC power is shut down. If an optional DC
supply is present, it will automatically assume control of tape library power.
Table A-1 lists library DC power supply specifications.
The tape library DC power supply (MPF card) converts AC input voltage from
the AC PDU into:
• +43 VDC for library servo motors and reach motor on the hand
• ±15 VDC power for the operational amplifiers on the MPC card
• +5 VDC for cards and CAP door motor
