Connection
To enable the connection of individual drive controllers with each other or with the controller, the CA6 communication
module provides its own interface in the form of a 9-pin D-sub connector for the connection to the CAN bus system.
6.1
Selecting suitable lines
CAN cables
There are CAN bus lines with different sheathing materials for various applications and ambient conditions. The
transmission of CAN signals requires at least a 3-pin cable with CAN-High, CAN-Low and reference ground.
In order to ensure error-free operation—especially at high transmission rates—we recommend using bus wires that meet
the requirements listed in ISO 11898-2, such as the following:
§
Characteristic impedance: 95 – 140 Ω
§
Maximum operating capacitance: 60 nF/km
§
Conductor resistance: 70 mΩ/m
Plug connectors
9-pin D-sub connectors with a metal housing or a housing made of metallized plastic are suitable as plug connectors at the
beginning and end of a CAN bus line; connector housings with 2 cable entries are advantageous for looping through.
Shielding
A suitable shield is indispensable, particularly for high transmission rates. The shielding of the CAN cable is mounted under
the connector's strain relief device; consequently, the shielding is connected to the drive controller by the connector
housing and the D-sub connector. Ensure continuous shielding over the entire bus length.
