Landing Gear
(continued)
71.
Slide the wheel pants onto the landing gear wire. (Do not mount the wheels yet). Mark the
wire where it exits the
outer
face of the wheel pants. Remove the wheel pants, and trim the
landing gear wire at the mark.
72.
Mount the wheel pants – this time, with the wheels in place. Make sure that the wire is
completely embedded into the slot in WPf. Secure the wheel pants in place with a drop of
medium CA at the
top
of the slot in WPf.
Do not allow any glue in the openings in the
wheel pants where the axle passes through.
73.
Hold the landing gear fairing LG2 (sheet 10/10, 1/32 in. ply) in place on
top
of the landing
gear wire. Carefully align the two etched lines on the
bottom
of the landing gear wires.
Temporarily hold them place with a drop of medium CA at the
top
of the fairing.
74.
Secure the fairing to the landing gear wire with a short length of clear tape. This will allow
the landing gear to flex without the fairings “popping off”.
75.
Slit the covering over the tail skid slot at the
bottom rear
of the fuselage. Press the tail skid,
part TS (sheet 10/10, 1/32 in. ply) into the slot. Secure with a drop of CA on each side.
Tail Surfaces
76.
Use low tack masking tape to secure the horizontal stabilizer and the elevator to the work
surface. Make sure that the bevelled edge of the elevator faces
down
, and that there is a
1/64 in. gap between the surfaces. Slice a length of clear tape
down
the
center,
leaving two
strips approximately 1/4 in. wide. Apply a strip of tape over the gap between the two
surfaces to create the hinge. Remove the horizontal stabilizer and the rudder from the work
surface. Flex the elevator back and forth, making sure that it moves freely with no binding.
If it does not move freely, remove the tape hinge and repeat the hinging process, slightly
increasing the gap between the surfaces.
