Tail Surfaces
(continued)
37.
Locate the rudder R (sheet 05/08, 1/20 in. balsa) and lightly sand both sides.
38.
Align the leading edge of the rudder along the edge of the work surface, with the
left
side
facing
up
. Use a sanding block to sand a 45-degree bevel along the leading edge.
Set the competed tail surfaces aside, until required in final assembly.
Wings
39.
Start construction of the wings with the
right
wing panel. Lay W1(R) (sheet 03/08, 1/20 in.
balsa) on the work surface with the etched side facing
up
. Fit the tabs at the
rear
of ribs
W2, W3, and W4 (sheet 03/08, 1/20 in. balsa) to the slots along the trailing edge of the wing
panel. Refer to the
Bottom View - Right Wing
on the detail sheet for the proper location of
each rib. Bond the
rear
of the ribs to the wing panel with CA.
40.
Turn the wing panel
right side up
. Wrap the wing panel over the ribs, and bond the ribs to
the wing panel at the wing spar, and to
the notches in the
front
of the wing panel. Remove
the wing panel from the work surface and examine each rib. Close any gaps between the
ribs and the wing panel, bonding with CA.
41.
Repeat steps 39 and 40, to build the
left
wing panel. Use parts W1(L) and parts W2, W3,
and W4 (sheet 04/08, 1/20 in. balsa).
Lightly sand the wings to prepare them for covering and remove excess glue. Set the
completed wing assemblies aside, until required in final assembly.
Wheel Pants
42.
Begin the wheel pant assembly by locating parts WP1, WP3, and WP5 (sheet 06/08, 1/16
in. balsa) and parts WP2 and WP4 (sheet 07/08, 1/8 in. balsa). Stack one set of parts WP1
through WP5
in order
, with the etched side of each part facing
up
. Carefully align the edges
of each part, then wick CA between the parts, to bond them together.
43.
Fit part WP6 (sheet 08/08, 1/32 in. play) into the recess in WP5, and bond with CA.
Note:
Ensure that no glue enters the slot in WP6.
44.
Repeat steps 42 and 43, to build the second wheel pant.
Note: Ensure that there is a
right and left wheel pant.
45.
Sand the wheel pants to a streamlined shape, rounding the
front
and tapering the
rear
,
as viewed from the
top
and
bottom
.
