DEFINITION OF TERMS
Edge Jointing:
The process of making the edge of a
piece of stock straight and square
Face Jointing:
Similar to edge jointing except rather
then the edge it is the face of the board that is being
machined flat and square.
Gum, Pitch or Resin:
A sticky sap based residue that
comes from wood products.
Rabbet:
A rectangular cut or groove along or near the
edge of a piece of wood that allows another piece to fit
into it to form a joint
Snipe:
Gouging or depression of the board at the
ends. Snipe can occur either at the beginning of the
board going into the jointer or at the end of the board
as it comes out of the jointer.
