(F4h)
The SECURITY ERASE UNIT (F4h) command is used to invoke one of the aforementioned sanitization
standards. The command is sent using the standard ATA interface. Once the command is issued, the
command interface is ignored and a power loss will not interrupt the erase process, as it is automatically
restarted on subsequent power-cycles until the process has been completed.
The user must first issue the SECURITY ERASE PREPARE (F3h) command immediately before
SECURITY ERASE UNIT (F4h) to enable device erasing and unlocking, thereby preventing accidental
data loss. Table 18 lists the input register values of the SECURITY ERASE PREPARE (F3h) command
for purpose of example only.
