5.4. Belted Chain repair

5.4.1. Belted Chains

1.

Belted  chains  are  vital  to  the  safe  and  efficient
operation  of  the  harvester.  To  prevent  unsched-
uled  downtime,  Inspect  and  maintain  the  listed
belted  chains  as  specified.  See  the  parts  manual
for the correct replacement parts.

2.

Perform  a  daily  visual  inspection  on  all  belted
chains. Repair or replace as necessary.



Inspect the Web Joiners for wear. Due to the
metal  on  metal  connection  in  the  Web  Join-
ers,  they  tend  to  wear  more quickly  than  the
rest of the belted chain. It is not uncommon to
wear out multiple Web Joiners during the life
of a belted chain.



Inspect the webbing for cracks and tears.



Check for detached, broken, or missing rods.



Check for bent rods. Use the provided Belted
Chain Rod Straightener to straighten any bent
rods. (See Figure 9)



Check for loose or missing rivets. Drill out and
replace as necessary.

3.

Belted chain repair/connection procedure.

5.4. Belted Chain repair (Cont.)



The webbing for a Belted Chain has a pattern
of  notches  and  cams.  Each  notch  carries  a
chain rod. The distance between the notches
defines the pitch of the chain. (See Figure 10)



The Web Joiner conforms to the same pattern
of notches and cams which is present on the
webbing.  The  Web  Joiner  is  designed  to  fit
over  one  end  of  a  Belted  Chain  web  and  to

Figure 9

Belted  chains  are  heavy  and  present  a  crushing
hazard. Use caution when moving.

WARNING!

The repair process described here is general in nature
and  may  not  reflect  the  exact  hardware  for  your
specific harvester. For example, the use or absence of
bushings,  the  number  of  mounting  holes,  grooved
versus  smooth  connecting  rods,  all  vary  from
configuration to configuration.

While  the  components  may  vary,  the  general
procedure applies to all Spudnik belted chains.

NOTE

Ensure  all  necessary  parts  are  on  hand  before
undertaking a belted chain repair.

Belted  chains  come  in  multiple  styles  and
configurations. This includes a variety of hardware for
connecting the ends of the webbing together.

Refer  to  the  serial  number  specific  parts  manual  for
the correct belted chain part number. Contact parts for
sub

-

assembly part numbers for repair components.

IMPORTANT

WARNING!

Before performing adjustments or maintenance work,
switch off the engine, remove the ignition key, and
secure the towing vehicle and machine.
