3.3 Troubleshooting
1. Shredder is not feeding material
-
The shredder may not be feeding for several reasons. The most
common reason is due to an overfilling / packing of material in
the top hopper. The operator can try to push the material into
the shredder teeth using the push stick. In certain cases, this
may not work. When that occurs, the material must be removed,
and smaller / lighter loads must be placed in the top hopper.
2.
Shredder jam
- If the shredder jams, the machine has been overloaded and
must be cleared for operation. This usually occurs when the
shredder pulls in too much heavy material, or the waste cart is
overfull and the waste has no where to eject.
To unjam the shredder, the reverse button must be actuated for
10-30 seconds. Then open the lid and move the heavier
material from the bottom of the hopper to the top and look for
any foreign material. If no foreign material is present, the jam
was most likely cause by a large amount of hard stalky material.
The lid can be closed, and the shredder can be restarted.
3. Shredder does not operate after a jam
- The shredder has jammed and has been cleared as in step 2
but does not operate when start or reverse is actuated.
During the jam, the breaker has been triggered. The Electrical
Fault light will be illuminated if this has occurred. This can be
fixed following the breaker reset protocol under 4.2 Breakers.
4. Shredder constantly jams
- The shredder will constantly jam if it is always being overloaded
with heavy material. Soft Organics such as Cannabis are
extremely fibrous and string and require high torque and HP for
operation. By lightening the loads in the top hopper, the
shredder will grab less material. This will allow it to operate
under less load and jamming will not occur.
