INSTALLATION

WARNING:

THESE PROCEDURES MUST BE FOLLOWED BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL OR WARRANTY
CAN BE DECLARED VOID.

GENERAL:

THE UNIT WHEN INSTALLED MUST BE ELECTRICALLY GROUNDED AND COMPLY WITH LOCAL
CODES, OR IN THE ABSENCE OF LOCAL CODES, WITH THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE ANSI NFPA
70-1984.

CANADIAN INSTALLATION MUST COMPLY WITH CSA STANDARD C22.1-CANADIAN ELECTRICAL CODE
PART 1.

1.

Be sure that the proper person has a copy of these instructions. A copy should be on file with the owner.

2.

Uncrate carefully. Report on hidden freight damage to the freight company immediately.

3.

Set up in place and level it. Allow enough clearance around the kettle for cleaning and maintenance.

4.

"STAND INSTALLATION" — Secure base to table or countertop with appropriate bolts. See specification
sheet for dimensions.

5.

Use a plastic sealer (such as G.E. or Dow Corning RTV.) around the base to insure a water tight seal.

6.

For proper connection of field wiring to terminal block, see "ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS." Be sure that
the input voltage and phase match the requirements shown on the serial plate (located on each piece of
equipment).

7.

This unit was shipped from the factory with a full charge of chemically pure water. This can be checked in
two ways:

A.

With kettle in upright position, remove plug. Water level should be level with bottom of plug (for
KTPE-5 & KTPE-10 only).

B.

When kettle is turned on, "Low Water" light will come on if water level is too low.

In either case, the proper procedure (for KTPE-5 and KTPE-10) would be to remove the plug from the rear
of the unit and fill with chemically pure water to the bottom of the plug opening. Replace plug securely.

EXHAUST FANS AND CANOPIES:

Canopies are set over ranges, ovens, kettles, etc., for ventilation purposes.

It is recommended that a canopy extend 6" past appliance and be located 6'6" from the floor. Filters should be
installed at an angle of 45° or more with the horizontal. This position prevents dripping of grease and facilitates
collecting the run-off grease in a drip pan, usually installed with the filter. A strong exhaust fan tends to create a
vacuum in the room and may interfere with performance. Makeup air openings approximately equal to the fan
area will relieve such vacuum. In case of unsatisfactory performance on any appliance, check with the exhaust
fan in the "OFF" position.

WALL EXHAUST FAN:

The exhaust fan should be installed at least 2 feet above the vent opening at the top of

the unit.

CLEARANCES:

Adequate clearance must be provided in aisle and at the side and back. Adequate clearances

for air openings, as well as for serviceability.

PERFORMANCE CHECK:

The following items should be checked before or within the first 30 days of operation by a qualified service
technician.

1.

Verify correct voltage, cycle and phase.

2.

Check internal electrical connections.

3.

Thermostat — cycle for operation check.

4.

Check tilt mechanism if applicable.

5.

Pressure gauge — check for operation.

6.

Advise user on cleaning procedures.
