SEL viewer
Introduction
The System Event Log (SEL) viewer utility is used to view
the log produced by the Motherboard, which can be used
for diagnosing problems.
Instructions are described in this section for:
• Saving a Motherboard log file
• Sending a log file to your Sony representative
For further details, a manual is provided with the utility.
Obtaining the utility
The SEL viewer utility may be obtained from
Intel
corporation and downloaded to a bootable USB memory
device, bootable CD or DVD.
When you need details of how to make a bootable USB,
contact your local Sony sales office or service center.
Saving a motherboard log file
The following procedure describes how to save a SEL file
to a USB Memory device:
1
Run the downloaded SEL viewer utility (.exe file) on
the server from USB memory device, CD or DVD.
The SEL viewer will open automatically and start
reading SEL entries.
• When the SEL viewer is open the mouse cannot be
used to select menu options. To move the cursor, use
the arrow and Tab keys. Use the keyboard Enter key
for [OK].
• If the event log is full, the log may not contain
information on the latest events. In this case clear the
contents then exit the viewer, re-boot the server
using [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del], then repeat the above
procedure.
2
Insert a USB memory device into a rear panel USB
connector.
3
Move the purple cursor to the drop-down menu
‘File’
press Enter on the keyboard.
4
Select
‘Save as’
and press Enter.
5
Type in a file name and press Enter to save the SEL to
the relevant drive.
Sending a log file to your Sony
representative
Your local Sony representative may ask for logs to be
emailed to them for examination in order to investigate a
problem.
1
Save the log file to a USB memory device (see above).
2
On another computer with internet access, email the
file to your Sony representative for examination.
