3.5
Isolate the gas supply by turning off at the meter. Fit a suitable means of isolation
to the gas supply to the fire.
3.6 Establish the route the gas supply will take. NB only rigid or semi-rigid pipe is
acceptable. There are four prepared positions for entry of the gas supply pipe to the
casing, two at the rear of the casing and one on either side. Provision may have to be
made to pass the gas supply pipe through the masonry of the fireplace. If so, factory
sleeved pipe with no breaks or joints must be used.
NB the use of 8mm-diameter supply pipe must not exceed 1 metre in length.
3.7 Connect the 8mm-supply pipe to the pressure test elbow using the nut and olive
provided. Protect the 8mm-supply pipe where it enters the firebox by use of the rubber
grommet provided.
3.8 Check for Gas Soundness by using a manometer. Remove the pressure test point
screw, connect the manometer to the pressure test point and turn on the gas supply at
the meter. Check that the system has pressurised and turn off the gas supply at the
meter. Watch the manometer, if the pressure falls the system is not gas tight. Locate
the leak and rectify. Repeat the soundness check and when satisfied remove the
manometer and replace the pressure test point screw.
4) ASSEMBLING THE CERAMICS AND LAYING THE COALS
4.1
Remove the ceramic components from their packaging and check contents and
that they are not damaged. Also remove base board from the fire, taking care not to
damage the long, thin fibre burner situated near the front and just behind the front
coal block. To ensure release of fibres from these RCF articles is kept to a minimum,
during installation and servicing, we recommend that you use HEPA filtered vacuum to
remove any dust accumulated in and around the fire, before and after working on the
fire. When replacing these articles we recommend that the replaced items are not
broken up, but are sealed within heavy duty polythene bags, clearly labelled as RCF
waste. This is not classified as "hazardous waste" and may be disposed of at a tipping
site licensed for disposal of industrial waste. Protective clothing is not required when
handling these articles, but we recommend you follow the normal hygiene rules of not
smoking, eating or drinking in the work area and always wash your hands before
eating or drinking. The minimum clearance from the edge of the fire to a combustible
surface at the side of the fire should be 150mm and if a shelf is installed above the
fireplace it should be no closer 150mm to the top of the fire.
If the left and right hand side cheeks need to be removed during installation ensure
that they are replaced correctly. NB Note that the side cheeks are cut to make a left or
right-hand cheek. This can be determined by the direction of cut on the angles of the
cheek and the left-hand cheek has a cut-out for the pilot. If the ceramic backboard
needs replacing, remove the plastic bag before installation.
4.2 Place the 3 base boards on top of the burner unit, behind the burner box. (SEE Fig
6 ).
4.3 Insert burner inserts into burner box channel as shown in
