Chapter 4
Using the Radian IS
Before using the Radian IS for the first time, ensure that you
have followed the set-up instructions in your Radian IS Jump
Start and Chapter 2, Setting-Up The Radian IS.
4.1
Power Supply and Control
In this chapter, all discussions about the Radian IS being off are
with the understanding that the Radian IS is still connected to a
power source (internal batteries or external source).
The following sections explain how to supply power to your
Radian IS. As well, the sections discuss how to use your Radian
IS to both manually and automatically collect data.
4.1.1
Turn system on
The Radian IS receiver has a power button that, when pushed,
will turn on or off the Radian IS receiver and system
peripherals. For more information on the power button see
Section 4.2.1, Power button, on Page 31.
4.1.2
System inactivity
The Radian IS will automatically shut off if left inactive for a
period of five minutes (in other words, if there is no COM port
activity and no data recording). The Radian IS will remain off
unless the time arrives for a scheduled session to begin, if the
