How do I setup a DMZ host?
In the most common router scenario, your private LAN is isolated from the Internet having its
private IP subnet (normally 192.168.2.1). Only previously requested data will get inside your
network from the Internet (WAN-to-LAN). Your LAN devices will be invisible for the internet
community.
There may be cases where you need to host a server behind your router that needs to be
accessible from the internet. When your server is holding just a single service, the normal
procedure will be to open/forward certain ports in the router with the Virtual Server
configuration option (this is explained in a previous question “How can I forward ports?”). But
if your server needs to hold more than one service or you want to create a sub-network with
all your servers in there you will need to configure a DMZ.
In the example of the previous picture, we will configure the host 192.168.2.101 as DMZ host.
Go to the submenu Firewall/DMZ, enable the DMZ function and enter the server IP Address.
Finally click on Apply for the changes to take effect.
