As shown above, the IP address will be allocated to the ppp_device once it has

been received from the CO’s DHCP server.

The following command allows you to access VPI, VCI, authentication type and

user ID as well as the IP address received from your PPP server and transmission

statistics:

SMC70032AE> ppp 1 info all

Note: If you wish to connect additional PCs you can connect the LAN port on the

SMC70032AE to a hub or switch. Set all the PCs connected to the Hub or

Switch to “Obtain an IP address automatically.” You will also need to set up the

DHCP server functions as listed under the DHCP Server section.

IPoA Routed (RFC1577)

If your service provider is using IPoA and you want the modem to separate your

network from the service provider’s network, use the following commands to

configure the modem in IPoA Routed mode. The example uses the LAN and

WAN IP information below:

LAN Settings

LAN Subnet: 192.168.1.0

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.1.1

WAN Settings

WAN Subnet: 202.1.136.0

Gateway: 202.1.136.1

Modem's WAN IP: 202.1.136.2
