10BaseT or 10/100BaseTX hub or switch or broadband router with a
10BaseT or 10/100BaseTX port
Cables
Make sure the following cables are included with your product:
RJ-11 (telephone cable 1 each) for the Telephone Line Port (LINE/TEL)
RJ-45 Cross-over UTP Ethernet cable for the Ethernet port (LAN)
RS-232C serial cable for the CONSOLE Port
Connecting your SMC70032AE
Step 1: Plug in the phone line
Using a standard telephone cable with RJ11 connectors, plug one side into the
wall jack set up as the ADSL line and the other end in the ‘LINE’ port on the back
of the SMC70032AE.
Note:
Since the SMC70032AE uses the 2 central pins of the connector (pins 3
and 4) in its default configuration you will need to make sure that the
center 2 pins are carrying the ADSL signaling. If the ADSL is carried on
the outside pair at the outlet, most likely your phone line and ADSL have
been split onto two separate lines and a special adapter is required that
will separate the inside and outside pairs into two jacks that both use
the inside pair (Figure 1.2).
