Appendix B: Using the IM-150
This section briefly discusses how to use the major components of the Sympodium IM-150
integration module. You’ll find more detailed information in the
Sympodium IM-150 User’s
Guide
and in the
SMART Board User’s Guide
.
Using the Console
When the connected computer is running SMART Board software, you can use the tethered
stylus to control any computer application. However, the annotation tools don’t work with the
auxiliary source.
To start the console
1
Ensure the source (main computer, laptop computer or auxiliary device) is turned on,
properly connected and, if the source is a computer, has SMART Board software open. If
necessary, press the correct source selection button on the control panel.
2
Press the screen’s
Power
button.
NOTE:
If you lose power to the console, the screen turns itself off. After the power is restored,
press the Power button. If you lose serial communications or if you close the SMART Board
driver program, the screen will lose its interactive capability. For any other difficulties, use the
Troubleshooting
section on pages 37 to 39 to isolate the module causing the problem.
When the Communications indicator glows solid green, the console is ready to use.
To use the stylus
1
Pick up the tethered stylus.
2
With your finger, press a pen tool button. If you don’t select a button, the default action is
a left-click (Windows or Mac OS X operating systems) or click (Macintosh computers).
Right-click
– For the next stylus contact with the screen to be a right-click (Windows or Mac
OS X operating systems only), press the Right-Click button. You can reconfigure this button
using the
SMART Board Control Panel
.
NOTE:
After contact with the screen, subsequent stylus touches revert to left-clicks.
Eraser
– For an eraser that removes electronic ink wherever you make stylus contact,
press the Eraser button. The cursor then changes to an eraser icon. Press the stylus on
the screen to delete the electronic ink in that location.
Colored Ink
– For colored electronic ink, press one of the four Colored Ink buttons and
write on the screen with the stylus.
Keyboard
– For access to a virtual keyboard, press the Keyboard button. Use the stylus
to press the virtual letter keys. In the Windows operating system, you can also press the
Write button on the keyboard to use the handwriting recognition feature.
NOTE:
A pen tool button will illuminate when it’s active, with the exception of the
Keyboard button. This is because you can have the virtual keyboard open and still change
the stylus behavior.
