Emissivity
Most organic materials as well as lacquered and oxidized surfaces have an emissivity
of 0.95. The emissivity is preset to 0.95 in the CMAC 4230 for this reason, but can
be changed using the rocker switch. The determination of the temperatures of shiny
or highly polished metal surfaces results in inaccurate measured values. To
compensate for this, the surface to be measured can be covered with adhesive tape
or painted matt black. Wait until the adhesive tape attains the same temperature as
the material underneath it. Then determine the temperature of the adhesive tape
(corresponds to the material) or the painted surface.
