A risk assessment must be carried out to ensure that
the correct size and style of sling has been met before
use. While every attempt is made to instruct a safe
transfer, you must conform to the current manual
handling procedures/regulations. If you are in any
doubt consult your Moving and Handling Advisor.
This is a short service sling and should be changed
regularly as all non woven materials deteriorate quickly,
therefore attention to the points below should be
followed.
All products should be checked each time they are
used for any signs of deterioration.
Please Check:
- braiding/tapes for deterioration and fraying
- material for holes/snagging
- compatibility with the hoist
- safe working load of both the hoist and sling
/product (if applicable)
Remove from use immediately if there are any signs
of deterioration to the sling, tapes or label.
PLEASE NOTE:
When the sling label below has come
into contact with water and reveals a red warning
sign,
REMOVE FROM USE IMMEDIATELY.
The Silvalea disposable sling range is labelled with
a Month & Year of manufacture.

Washing Guidelines:
•
Do not use the short service sling for bathing or
showering a patient
•
If the sling comes into contact with any liquid dispose
of the sling immediately
•
Do not use the sling if you can see deterioration of
any kind
•
Do not leave a patient in the sling unattended
•
If in doubt, do not use the sling (Always ensure that
the maximum load of the hoist is not exceeded).
•
Silvalea recommends that all disposable slings are
stored in a dry, controlled environment away from any
moisture, damp and wetness and always within the
original plastic outer bag.
•
It is strongly recommended that the Silvalea
disposable slings are not stored for longer than a
5 year period from date of purchase – after which
time they should be destroyed and not used.
Product Care:
•
Dispose of the sling if it has become soiled, damaged
or contaminated.
•
This sling has been designed specifically for individual
patient use – destroy the sling once the patient
has been discharged in accordance with the local
requirements and regulations.

If sling has been used on a patient with an Infectious
condition please refer to your infection control
procedure
