3: Advanced Node Board Setup
ESD Precautions
•
Use a grounded wrist strap designed to prevent electrostatic discharge.
•
Touch a grounded metal object before removing any board from its antistatic bag.
•
Handle each printed circuit board (PCB) by the edges; do not touch the components,
peripheral chips, memory modules, or gold contacts on the PCB.
•
When handling chips or modules, avoid touching the pins.
•
Place the node board, expansion PCI cards, or other boards and components into antistatic
bags when not in use.
•
Make sure your computer chassis provides a conductive path between the power supply, the
case, the mounting fasteners, and the node board to chassis ground.
Unpacking
Caution:
The node board is shipped in antistatic packaging to avoid electrostatic discharge
damage. Be sure to use ESD precautions when you unpack replacement components for the
SGI Altix XE250 server. Failure to do so can result in damage to the equipment.
Node Board Installation
This section explains how to mount the node board into the SGI Altix XE250 chassis. To remove
the node board, follow this procedure in reverse order.
Note:
If the server is already installed in a rack, you must first release the retention screws
that secure the unit to the rack. Then grasp the two handles on either side and pull the unit
straight out until the rails lock into place.
1.
Press the two buttons on the top of the chassis to release the top cover (refer to
Figure 3-1
).
2.
Lift the top cover from the chassis.
