Following proper mounting and wiring of the measurement system consis-
ting of MSAC501 sensor and MRAC501 magnetic ring (or MBAC501, resp.),
the system can be put into operation by applying the operating voltage
(see installation instruction MSAC501).
After switching on supply voltage, the sensor will be initialized within
approx. 220 ms. Afterwards the sensor is operative. Depending on the con-
dition of the Config input during the moment of energizing, the encoder
will switch over into either of two possible modes:
1. Config input = +UB: Encoder in the SIKONETZ3 mode of operation
2. Config input = GND: Encoder in Service mode: SIKONETZ3 protocol
disabled.
During the initialization stage, the diagnosis LED will be red and change
to green. Detected error states cause the LED to flash (with different flas-
hing rhythms depending on the type of error; see chapter
8
).
4.1 Address setting
In the delivery state, MSAC501-SN3 is set to address 1. The address can be
changed within the Service mode (see chapter
3.1
and chapter
9.2
).
4.2 Calibration of the measurement system
This value is factory-set to "0"; therefore, the position value "0" will
appear as standard. The calibration value can be changed in the SIKO-
NETZ3 mode via the 28h (KWU) command as well as in the Service mode
(see chapter
9.2
) and will be stored non-volatilely.
MSAC501 is an absolute measurement system; i. e. the information of
the position value is embodied in the scale (MRAC501 magnetic ring or
MBAC501 magnetic band) as an absolute value. After successful mounting
of the sensor, the sensor can be set to a defined value by setting the posi-
tion value to the calibration value.
MSAC501 is calibrated in the SIKONETZ3 mode via the 48h (NULS) com-
mand; but calibration is also possible in the Service mode.
From now on, the value "Position value = 0 + calibration value" will be
output at the current sensor position. With calibration, the current posi-
tion value will be replaced by the set calibration value and stored non-
volatilely.
