Mounting the feather key
WARNING
Injuries due to feather key flung out
When a motor using a key is running, the feather key on the shaft can be thrown out by
centrifugal force. This can result in personal injury or material damage.
•
Before operating the motor, the feather key on the shaft must be firmly secured to
prevent from being thrown out by the centrifugal force.
NOTICE
Damage to motor bearing due to improper operation
Never mount the feather key by hammering into the key slot; otherwise, there is a risk of
bearing damage.
•
Pay attention to the installation direction of the feather key.
•
Mount the key without striking the key slot or the shaft extension.
Precondition
•
To avoid shaft extension or feather key damage, use siphon pliers (for example, Knipex 81
13 250) with soft jaws made of plastic or brass for mounting the feather key.
Procedure
•
Install the well lubricated feather key (
①
) to the key slot (
②
) and make sure that the
feather key and the key slot are fitted closely. To install the feather key, you are
recommended to place a V-type block (
③
) under the shaft extension for supporting and
then knock the feather key into the key slot by using a copper bar; or you can wrap the
shaft extension in copper sheets after fitting the feather key into the key slot and then
clamp the shaft extension by using the siphon plier.
