3.11 Connecting the Field PG to a SIMATIC S5 Network
Point-To-Point Connection
In this section, you will learn how to connect your Field PG to a programming
device or S5 PLC using a point-to-point connection.
You can establish a point-to-point connection by connecting the Field PG to
another programming device using a TTY connection.
Notice
The interface is connected to potential.
The SIMATIC STEP 5 programming software and the patch cord for the connec-
tion to the S5 PLC is not supplied with all versions.
Connecting the Field PG to the S5 PLC
You can connect the Field PG to a SIMATIC S5 PLC via COM1/TTY interface port.
The patch cord for connecting to SIMATIC S5 CPUs is not included with all
delivered versions (

You connect your Field PG to a SIMATIC S5 PLC as follows:
1. Switch off your device.
2. Open the cover of the interface ports on the rear of the device.
3. Connect the patch cord to the COM1/V.24-Modem/PLC port.
4. Secure the connector with screws.
5. Connect the patch cord to the corresponding port on the CPU of the PLC.
Caution
The interface port may be damaged if you use the wrong patch cord.
