Scorpion 40 Installation Manual, Rev. A
3
Introduction
This installation manual summarizes the installation and
operation of Seagate
®
Scorpion 40 DDS-4 drives.
Note: DDS tape drives are sometimes referred to as “DAT”
drives. However, only the former term is used in this
manual.
The Scorpion 40 uses DDS-4 tape cartridges with a native
capacity of 20 Gbytes (40 Gbytes with 2:1 data
compression). It can also read and write older tapes using
DDS-1, DDS-2 and DDS-3 tape formats. Data compression is
supported for all these formats.
The Scorpion 40 supports the following SCSI interfaces:
•
68-pin Ultra2 SCSI (LVD)
•
68-pin SCSI Wide (single-ended)
•
50-pin SCSI-2 (requires 68- to 50-pin single-ended
adapter such as Seagate PN 10006520-001)
Note: The Scorpion 40 will not work in a SCSI-1
environment.
