Instruments are blackening or
there is damage to materials.
Sterilization temperature is too
high for the materials
The sterilization program
selected is not appropriate for
the materials/instruments being
sterilized. Check
materials/instruments
manufacturer’s

Instruments show traces of
oxidation or spotting
Low quality instruments
Instruments made of inferior
materials can be prone to
discoloration. Check the quality
of the instruments that are
spotting. Verify that they can
tolerate steam sterilization.
