MW3520 Installation Guide

1 Introduction
The MW3520 is a powerful IP router that is capable of transmitting data over several types of Wide Area Network.
The standard model features:
♦
12V DC power supply
♦
1 x ADSL interface
♦
1 x ISDN BRI interface
♦
5 x 10/100Mbps auto-sensing/auto MDI/MDX LAN port
♦
1 x async/sync RS232 serial port
♦
1 x async only RS232 serial port
Other models are available with an optional GPRS (wireless) and/or PSTN (analogue modem) interface.
The MW3410 is similar to the MW3520 but features four hub ports instead of five and only one serial port.
The unit can be configured either by using commands entered at the serial port (much like a modem), or via the
built-in Web interface. We recommend that you use the Web interface whenever possible.
In addition to many standard LAN and Internet protocols such as PPP, the MW3520 provides a combination of
powerful but easy to use configuration, management and diagnostic tools.

Front panel features
The MW3520 front panel, illustrated below, incorporates a number of LED (Light Emitting Diode) indicators.
These operate as described in the following table:
ON
Illuminates red when power is applied.
LAN 0,1,2,3,4
Illuminate green when there is a network connection to the relevant LAN port and flash
when data is transmitted/received on that port.
Note that on the MW3410 the LAN 0 indicator is omitted.
ISDN
The operation of this LED depends on how the unit is configured.
By default it will remain off to indicate that the unit is configured to show the ISDN status
on the next 3 LEDs.
On models fitted with the GPRS option and configured to show the GPRS status this
LED illuminates red.
ISDN D /
GPRS NET
The operation of this LED depends on how the unit is configured and whether or not the
GPRS option is fitted.
If the unit is configured to show the ISDN status, it illuminates green when the ISDN
LAPD link is established. It will flash slowly when a D-channel X.25 link has been raised.
When the D-channel X.25 link is passing data, it will flash quickly.
If the unit is configured to show the GPRS status, it illuminates green when a GPRS
network has been detected.
ISDN B1 /
GPRS SIM
The operation of this LED depends on how the unit is configured and whether or not the
GPRS option is fitted.
If the unit is configured to show the ISDN status, it illuminates green when ISDN B-
channel 1 is active. If data is being transmitted or received over this channel it will flash.
If the unit is configured to show the GPRS status, it illuminates green when a valid SIM
card is installed in the unit.
