GA SINF 08.18 7/8
as emergency exits, fire extinguishing devices etc. as well as
dangerous stairways, steps, falling edges, pits and bump hazard
edges, tripping hazards and similar danger spots. If necessary,
the
fog density
must
be
reduced
or the
danger spots removed
or made appropriately and clearly visible by means of
illuminated
signs
or the like.
It must also be ensured
that persons
will be found in the fog
by
emergency service
for example in the event of a medical emer-
gency.
The
exposure to denser fog
should therefore only imposed to
instructed persons
who are familiar with the location. If neces-
sary, exercise procedures with lower fog density must be carried
out beforehand.
Uninformed
or
elderly people and children
, as well as sensitive
persons (asthmatics, etc.) may
react unexpectedly to fog
2)
,
contact with theater fog
without prior instruction
and infor-
mation
is therefore to be
avoided
.
The
fog jet
emerging from the devices should
not
be
directed
at
persons or sensitive
or
valuable
objects
(safety or discretion
distance to persons at least 1 - 2 m, to objects at least 0.5 - 2 m,
depending on the strength of the fog jets).
Likewise, the fog jet should
not
be pointed
at large, incan-
descent masses or into large flames
(danger of formation
of harmful combustion products. Candle flames, small
torches, common electric heaters, etc. do not pose any dan-
ger)
.
Spillage of fog fluid or overdosing of fog, especially in cold
rooms, can lead to slippery condensate on the floor. Spilled flu-
ids must be removed immediately, the condensate tendency
checked by preliminary tests and, if necessary, non-slip floor cov-
erings used.
The fog fluid and the devices must be protected
from con-
tamination
and placed inaccessible to unauthorized per-
sons. (The addition of any kind of foreign substance to
SAFEX
®
-Fog Fluid
is inappropriate and forfeits any warran-
ty and liability of the manufacturer!)
The fluids are to be used
only
for their intended purpose and only
in theater fog machines. They are not intended for general use (e.
g. in household appliances) and, like all chemical products,
should be kept
out of the reach of children
and used only by
adults in accordance with the operating instructions for the appli-
ance.
SAFEX
®
-INSIDE-FOG FLUIDS
should only be stored in marked original
containers, tightly closed and protected from dirt, in a cool, preferably
dark place.
2)
All statements are valid for healthy young persons and adults.
Sick persons or per-
sons bronchopneumonally predamaged and children
should for
general
reasons
avoid coming into contact with any kind of smokes, dust or fog. These persons can, due
to their increased sensibility, react with a strong feeling of anxiety together with strong
physical reactions, in rare cases even with panic attacks to an unprepared confrontation
with theater fog.
Asthmatics
can be sensible to any type of fog, regardless of its substantial composition,
even to water vapor, humid or cold air, and react with asthma attacks that are seriously
threatening if suitable medication is not immediately available. They should therefore not
be exposed to artificial fogs of any kind or only in very low concentrations and after prior
information about the intended application.
Sensitive persons
may be irritated by any non-atmospheric substances in any concen-
tration, even if such substances are chemically and toxicologically completely harmless.
Non-poisonous (toxicologically harmless) substances may not be “imposed” on persons
against their will and may not be sprayed onto unpackaged foodstuff or in rooms where
food will be prepared. (Impairment of food regulations by materials of foreign matter)
Persons who feel irritated after they came into contact with
SAFEX
®
-INSIDE-FOG FLUID
,
should not be further exposed to the fog until the causal relationship can be fully exclud-
ed. This is to avoid that a possible sensitivity is intensified (bronchial hyperreactivity,
idiosyncrasia, psychosomatic reaction or toxicopia).
3)
Proper
use
is the creation of a temporary fog atmosphere with
SAFEX
®
-Fog Fluid
for
technical or artistic purposes when people are staying in it.
Usual use
and usual concentration
is the common use of artificial fog in theater and
film. The usual concentration here causes a visibility range of several meters, temporari-
ly also occasionally below 2 mtr.
Artificial fog is
not
intended
for the permanent, unlimited stay
of persons. A continu-
ous, e. g. all-day stay in dense fog or a regular stay in such fog for 8 hour shifts or for
many days or even weeks is therefore to be regarded as
inappropriate
.
SPECIAL APPLICATIONS / CONTINUAL FOGGING:
SAFEX
®
-FOG MACHINES
are designed in such a way that large quanti-
ties of fog can be generated with them for a short time. With high
fogging performance, however, the heat exchanger cools down after a
few minutes to such an extent that perfect evaporation is no longer
possible.
The time period that can be used for this
“turbo output”
depends on
the size of the heat exchanger and the power consumption of the fog
machine in watts. If the operating temperature is no longer ensured,
the device temperature controller automatically switches off the fluid
supply; the device must now reheat or heat up.
Each fog fluid requires
at least 1000 watts
of heating power
to
evaporate 30 ml per minute
continuously. This is a physically fixed
value that also applies to comparable liquids and is largely independ-
ent of the chemical composition. A
“3000 Watt fog generator” can
thus
vaporize a maximum of 90 ml of
fog fluid per minute in contin-
uous operation!
So if continuous fog is to be generated, it is necessary to reduce the
maximum output quantity of
SAFEX
®
-FOG MACHINES
by approx. 40
percent.
(Detailed information can be found in the
SAFEX
®
leaflet: FOG GENERATOR
PERFORMACR DATA)
SPECIAL APPLICATIONS / CONDUCTING FOG:
The fog generated is not formed inside the device, as is often suspect-
ed, but only outside the device by a reaction of the vaporized fog fluid
with the atmospheric air directly behind the outlet nozzle in a
zone
approx. 20 - 50 cm long
. This must not be disturbed by attaching
hoses
*
)
etc. directly to the outlet nozzle or the nozzle protection tube,
as this prevents air access. Sufficient air access in the nozzle area is
necessary for the formation of microscopic fog droplets by “jet decay”.
*
)
A hose or tube connection directly at the nozzle or at the nozzle protection tube of fog
machines is not possible for physical reasons, as this hinders the fog formation and can
also lead to damage or hazards. The thread on the outlet nozzle of SAFEX
®
DEVICES is
not used for these purposes, but for attaching special nozzles.
The correct procedure to guide and direct the fog is the use of
special
nozzles, suitable tube and hose devices or the use of a
hose adapter
with special hose.
Principle:
The air inlet opening of ordinary tubes or (hose-) lines must
under no circumstances
be connected tightly to the outlet nozzle of
the unit; there must be sufficient clearance for air supply.
Such a direct connection not only hinders / prevents the formation of
