If you do not have the Zip Mate in the correct removal position, the tool
sleeve spring could possibly snap off. (See next section Replacing Sleeve Spring)
• Gently pull and wiggle Zip Mate off tool.
• Holding down shaft lock button, loosen collet nut and remove pinion gear. Lightly replace the
collet nut onto tool. NOTE: Do not tighten the collet nut down onto an empty collet.
Doing so reduces the collet opening and prevents further use.
Replacing the Sleeve Spring
• If sleeve spring snaps off, reinstall.
• Hook one end into the slot and maintain that position. (Photo 6-4)
• The ring should naturally follow around the tool in the molded channel, until you can hook the
other end into the slot. Use the side of the wrench to lock the ends into the slot. (Photo 6-5)
Sleeve Spring
Hook one end of the sleeve
spring into the notch on the
bottom of the tool.
Bring the other end of
sleeve spring around
placing it also in the notch
on tool. Use the wrench to
press the hooks locking
them into the notch.
