R&S CMW supports the following DBM applications:
●
Over The Air Service Provisioning (OTASP) used to update or install the network
dependent elements of the mobile station’s personalization
●
Position Determination Messages (PDM) ) also known as an assisted GPS to
determine the position of the MS
●
Short Message Service (SMS) configured in the GUI within the "Messaging
(SMS)", see
chapter 4.3.10, "Messaging (SMS)" , on page 556
OTASP and PDM applications can be controlled solely through the remote interface,
for remote control see
chapter 4.5.11, "Other DBM Applications" , on page 686.
R&S CMW offers different methods to send and receive a DBM:
●
TCH : via Traffic Channel using an existing call
●
PCH, ACC : via Paging Channel (send) or Access Channel (receive) if a call does
not exist
●
SOx : establishing a connection with the specified service option, for example SO6,
if a call does not exist
●
NONE : if a call does not exist, drop the message, do not establish a call

4.2.15.1 Data Burst Message
The message is a simple container that allows an array of octets to be sent to the other
end of the link. DBM is defined in 3GPP2 C.S0005 in section 2.7.1.3.2.3.
Field Length (bits) Description
MSG_NUMBER 8 Message number within the data burst stream
BURST_TYPE 6 Indicates which protocol is being transported
NUM_MSGS 8 Number of messages within data burst stream
NUM_FIELDS 8 Number of characters in this message
CHARi 8 x NUM_FIELDS Data burst
Message number and number of messages within the data burst stream are hardco-
ded in the CDMA2000 signaling. Both values are set to one (0x01) for all messages
(exception: SMS).
4.2.15.2 SMS: Message File Format
The R&S CMW can send SMS messages stored in a text file or entered directly at the
GUI and will receive and store messages in file(s). The format for send and receive
