Engine Crankcase Oil
Note that Yamaha outboard engines are shipped from the factory
without engine oil. Before starting the engine for the fi rst time the
correct type and amount of oil must be added (See your outboard
owner’s manual for details before attempting to start the engine).
Th
ere is a tag shipped with the engine saying that the engine oil is to
be fi lled. Th
is tag should be removed aft er the engine oil has been fi lled
for the fi rst time. Also, refer to the following pages and the outboard
engine owner’s manual for the correct procedures for checking and/
or adding engine oil to the crankcase.
Engine Break-In Procedure
Note that your 4 cycle outboard engine requires a period of break-in
for the internal engine parts to wear in properly. Following the break-
in procedure will assist in producing longer engine life and increased
performance. See your outboard owner’s manual for specifi c break-in
procedures for your specifi c model.
CHECK THAT THE ENGINE IS FILLED WITH TYPE AND VISCOSITY
OF OIL BEFORE
FIRST TIME OPERATION TO AVOID ENGINE DAMAGE.
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER’S
PROPER BREAK-IN PROCEDURE COULD RESULT
IN SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE, REDUCED ENGINE LIFE CYCLE
AND MAY VOID THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY.
