Formatting a new disc
Formatting a disc under Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7:
When a disc is formatted, all data will be erased! Only use
the formatting function, if you are initiating a new hard
disc or if you want to wipe a disc clean of data.
You need administrator rights.
Wait until Windows has recognised the hard disc. It may
happens that the window for newly attached storage
devices does not automatically open. Continue with the
next step.
Open your explorer and select the hard disc with a right
click. Select “Format” from the menu.
A window will open in which you have a choice of options
and where you can give the hard disc a name. You can give
the disc a name, but the options should be left at default
and not changed. Please only change the options, if you
are sure of the functions.
Click on “Start” to initiate the format process. The status
will be shown.
After the hard disc has been formatted, it can be used.
