INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Radio PIN Lock
(RDR4250 and RDR4280 Only)
For security purposes you can lock your radio with the PIN lock feature.
To turn the PIN On/Off follow the process outlined below:
1. Press “ ” to access the main menu.
2. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Settings and press “ ”
to select.
3. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Radio Settings and press
“ ” to select.
4. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to PIN and press “ ” to select.
5. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to On/Off and press “ ” to
select.
6. To turn On the PIN lock, select “On” and enter a 6 digit PIN. When
done press “ ”. To turn Off the PIN lock, select “Off”.
7. The display shows “Success”.
To change the PIN, follow the process outlined below:
1. Press “ ” to access the main menu.
2. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Settings and press “ ”
to select.
3. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Radio Settings and press
“ ” to select.
4. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to PIN and press “ ” to select.
5. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Change Pass. and press
“ ” to select.
6. Enter the current PIN first and press “ ”. Then enter a new 6
digit PIN and press “ ”, enter the new PIN again to confirm and
press “ ”.
7. The display shows “Success”.
Turning Voice Operating Transmission (VOX) Feature On/Off
This feature allows you to initiate a hands-free voice activated call
on a programmed channel. The radio automatically transmits, for a
programmed period of time, whenever the microphone on the VOX-
capable accessory detects a voice.
Note:
This feature must be programmed by your RCA Communications
Systems Dealer to enable your radios to use this function. It is NOT
advised to use VOX in loud and noisy environments, around heavy
machinery or when close by to other radio users.
If VOX is programmed by your RCA Communications Systems Dealer
you may manually turn it On or Off. Press the programmed VOX
programmable function key to toggle VOX On/Off. You may also
use the radio menu (RDR4250 and RDR4280 Only) by following the
process outlined below:
1. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Settings and press “ ”
to select.
2. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Radio Settings and press
“ ” to select.
Talkaround
This feature toggles between Repeater and Talkaround (Direct) mode.
If you are using a repeater and your repeater is not operating or you
are out of range, you can continue to communicate during that time
directly with other radios within your group. This is called “Talkaround”.
Press the programmed Repeater / Talkaround programmable function
key to toggle between Talkaround and Repeater modes.
Note:
The Talkaround setting is retained even after powering down.

3. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to VOX and press “ ” to select.
4. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Enable or Disable and press
“ ” to select.
5. The display shows “Success”.
Note:
Pressing the PTT button during hands-free radio operation will
disable VOX.

Function Keys
(RDR4250 and RDR4280 Only)
This feature allows you to assign and control radio features and
functions to the programmable function keys.
1. Press “ ” to access the main menu.
2. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Settings and press “ ”
to select.
3. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Radio Settings and press
“ ” to select.
4. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to Function Keys and press
“ ” to select.
5. Press “ ” or “ ” to navigate to the desired function key and
press “ ” to select.
• Top Key (TK)
• Channel Knob
• Side Key 1 (SK1)
• Side Key 2 (SK2)
• Side Key 3 (SK3)
• PTT
• FK1 Key (-)
• FK2 Key (- -)
6. Press “ ” or “ ” to Enable or Disable and press “ ” to
confirm.
7. If Enable is selected, press “ ” or “ ” to select the desired
function and press “ ” to confirm.
8. The display shows “Success”.
